Mr. Ojima that was an excellent presentation! Thank you so much! Working in the field I would like to add that in FLA quantity and quality of input in instructed settings are of great importance when trying to make conclusions about the CPH. As Lenneberg said we should be looking for cases where students attained the L2 automatically from mere exposure to input. In that case, current educational policies do not provide us with many opportunities to test the CPH in FLA correctly. However, recent studies from private early immersion programmes in L2 actually support the notion of 'the earlier is better' showing that the CPH in FLA is not a scam provided that it begins early in life in environments where children receive a huge amount of authentic L2 input. Taking advantage of the implicit learning mechanisms of young children is something all FLA teachers should be looking for. Again, thank you for sharing such a detailed presentation!

I can understand that implicit learning is suitable for young learners in a sense. I also understand that they are not at a level where explicit learning is possible.

However, from the perspective of perception or brain development (decline?), is there any evidence that young learners are suited to implicit learning? Except on a lower cognitive level.

For example, is it possible to say that the auditory function is specialized to L1 and the non-essential part of the brain declines?
