Indonesia and Thailand are still the biggest economies occupying the 1st and 2nd position respectively. There is a Tough Competition between Philippines and Vietnam for 3rd and 4th Position.
1. INDONESIA
The largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia – a diverse archipelago nation of more than 300 ethnic groups – has charted impressive economic growth since overcoming the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s.
Today, Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous nation, the world’s 10th largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity, and a member of the G20. Furthermore, Indonesia has made enormous gains in poverty reduction, cutting the poverty rate by more than half since 1999, to 9.78% in 2020.
2. THAILAND
Over the last four decades, Thailand has made remarkable progress in social and economic development, moving from a lowincome to an upper middleincome country in less than a generation. As such, Thailand has been a widely cited development success story, with sustained strong growth and impressive poverty reduction. Thailand’s economy grew at an average annual rate of 7.5% in the boom years of 19601996 and 5% during 19992005 following the Asian Financial Crisis. In recent years, economic growth slowed from 4.2% in 2018 to 2.4% in 2019. The key drivers of slowing growth were weaker demand for exports reflecting the impact of USChina trade tensions, slowing public investments, and a drought, impacting agricultural production.
3. VIETNAM
The economy of Vietnam is a mixed socialistoriented market economy, which is the 37thlargest in the world as measured by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) and 23rdlargest in the world as measured by purchasing power parity (PPP) in 2020. Vietnam is a member of the AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the World Trade Organization.
Since the mid1980s, through the Đổi Mới reform period, Vietnam has made a shift from a highly centralized command economy to a mixed economy. This economy uses both directive and indicative planning through fiveyear plans, with support from an open marketbased economy.
4. PHILIPPINES
The economy of the Philippines is the world’s 34th largest economy by nominal GDP according to the International Monetary Fund 2021 and the 12th largest economy in Asia, and the 3rd largest economy in the ASEAN after Indonesia and Thailand. The Philippines is one of the emerging markets, and the 3rd highest economy in Southeast Asia by nominal GDP nominal, following Thailand and Indonesia. The Philippines is primarily considered a newly industrialized country, which has an economy in transition from one based on agriculture to one based more on services and manufacturing. As of 2021, GDP by purchasing power parity was estimated to be at $1.47 trillion, the 18th in the world.

Thailand Vietnam Cambodia
Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It’s known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew). Nearby beach resorts include bustling Pattaya and fashionable Hua Hin.
Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi, the capital, pays homage to the nation’s iconic Communistera leader, Ho Chi Minh, via a huge marble mausoleum. Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) has French colonial landmarks, plus Vietnamese War history museums and the Củ Chi tunnels, used by Viet Cong soldiers.
Cambodia is a Southeast Asian nation whose landscape spans lowlying plains, the Mekong Delta, mountains and Gulf of Thailand coastline. Phnom Penh, its capital, is home to the art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace and the National Museum’s historical and archaeological exhibits. In the country’s northwest are the ruins of Angkor Wat, a massive stone temple complex built during the Khmer Empire.
